SPARK 2.0 is a free summer program for local youth in Hastings entering 5th grade through 8th grade. Coordinated by Hastings Community Education, Hastings Family Service, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and United Way of Hastings, this program is made possible through financial and in-kind donations from a number of community partners. The program aims to keep kids active and engaged with peers throughout the summer months.
The program's consistent staffing, arranged by Hastings Community Education, ensures that participating youth can connect with a positive adult during the summer. Hastings Family Service provides lunch, snacks, and staff time for coordinating activities, while Our Saviour's Lutheran Church also shares its space and United Way of Hastings shares staff time for coordinating activities.
The program takes place at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and is run by SPARK staff. The staff leads games and activities. Hastings Community Education, Hastings Family Service and United Way of Hastings schedule programming from various community organizations and volunteers. Past contributors include Black Dirt Theater, Canadian Pacific Police Service, Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center, Dakota County Library, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Hastings Pickleball Association, Hastings Tennis Association, Mr. Patrick O’Connor, Rec+Art+Police Program and Rio Gran Dog Boarding. SPARK 2.0 is always open to new partners who want to join in on this important community effort to provide free youth programs and activities.
